Explosive eruption of Mount Tavurvur

Mont Tavurvur

These impressive images have been filmed several days ago by an Australian tourist who was witnessing the explosive eruption of the Mount Tavurvur which is a volcano located in Papua New Guinea. The video initially shows fumes coming out from the mountain from afar, and then suddenly, a giant explosion sends lava and smoke up towards the sky. The most spectacular part is to watch the shockwave spreading across the land and the sky and to hear the huge explosion which depicts the violence with which the dome of the volcano has been blown out. In 1994, an eruption of the same volcano has destroyed the city of Rabaul without hurting anyone. This region is often affected by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions as it is found between several tectonic plates that sometimes collide against each other.
